English Presentation

Motivation

Brazil is in a great boost phase of its maritime activity, developing a broad program of shipbuilding construction and offshore oil exploration and production. With a growing demand for ships and offshore structures, new technological challenges emerge in various industrial sectors. In order to promote new opportunities comesthe NAVTEC 2014 International Conference on Offshore and Marine Technology, a parallel event with the Fair in the area of Naval and Offshore Engineering: Naval Cluster Fair/RS (www.polonavalrs.br). Among the many events that constitute it, Symposium on Automation and Computation for Naval, Offshore and Subsea (NAVCOMP) aims at dealing with the challenges in Automation and Computation for Offshore, Marine and Subsea Industry.

NAVCOMP will occur in the city of Rio Grande - RS, from 11 to 14th March, 2014, at the premises of the Federal University of Rio Grande - FURG. Rio Grande is the headquarter of a new naval cluster in southern Brazil. It began with the discovery of the Pre-salt layer, which increased Petrobrasdemand for Supply Vessels, Platforms and Oil Tankers leading to the resumption of shipbuilding in Brazil. Interestingly, these demands should be attended in the next years by shipyards installed in Brazil.

The Symposium

In its second edition, the NAVCOMP 2014 addresses the major technological challenges associated with automation and computing, thus becoming a forum for presentation and discussion of research and technical developments. The last edition was held in 2013 with more than 300 people participating. The target public are graduate students, professional and industry representatives, aiming at the generation of new perspectives in terms of research and opportunities in the area.
